Narmi, a leading digital banking technology provider for banks and credit unions, today announced the launch of Digital ID Prefill, a new capability that allows eligible consumers to securely populate an account application using information from a digital ID stored in Google Wallet.
Built using Google Wallet’s digital credentials infrastructure, the functionality makes Narmi the country’s first digital banking platform to bring Google Wallet digital ID prefill directly into consumer account opening.
For applicants, the experience is intentionally simple. On a supported Android device, an applicant can select “Autofill from ID,” review the information being requested, consent to share it from Google Wallet, and populate personal information like name, date of birth, and address without manually entering it field by field. This flow reduces typing, helps limit data-entry errors, and creates a faster path through one of the most tedious portions of the account-opening process.
Identity is moving from physical documents to verified credentials users can securely present from their devices. Over time, digital credentials also have the potential to reduce the industry's dependence on physical documents, photocopies, scans, and other handoffs.
Google Wallet already supports government-issued digital IDs from a growing number of U.S. jurisdictions, while eligible digital IDs can be presented at supported TSA airport checkpoints. In June 2026, Google Wallet also became the first digital wallet partner for TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.
For Narmi, those developments point toward a future in which presenting verified identity information digitally becomes increasingly routine – including opening a financial account.
“Some of the most fundamental parts of our lives are moving to digital credentials, and identity is one of them,” said Nikhil Lakhanpal, Co-Founder of Narmi. “Financial institutions shouldn’t have to wait until that transition is complete to begin preparing for it.
“We built Google Wallet digital ID support directly into account opening so community banks and credit unions can meet their customers and members where they’re headed, not where they were five years ago.”
Google’s digital identity infrastructure is designed around verified, user-controlled credentials. Its Digital Credentials API allows apps and websites to request identity attributes from supported digital wallets, while users review what information is being requested and explicitly approve sharing it. Credentials can include cryptographically signed information from government or other trusted issuers, creating an alternative to relying entirely on information an applicant manually types into a form.
Digital ID Prefill is available through Narmi Consumer Grow in an increasing number of jurisdictions.
